Field Trips
Las Vegas – 4th of July weekend
Las Vegas for the 4th of July weekend was a great time. We went out there with our friend’s Brian and Rachel and we stayed at the MGM Grand which was packed. A few things before I go into our food experience and pictures. I booked our trip directly through the hotel website and was told by several people get a players card right away as it will help you save money. The line to get a players card Thursday night was VERY long but after about an hour Jen and I became players
. MGM Grand Casino being massive is an understatement! I know a few times we got lost due to how big the gaming floor is! Ok now let’s talk about food!
Shibuya
This is a Japanese restaurant inside the MGM Grand which features fresh stellar sushi and Jen was able to get her favorite flavored sake.

Here are some pictures of our sushi plates:

Seared Ahi Tuna with Crunchy Vegetable Rolls

Spicy Tuna Rolls, Yellowfin Tuna Rolls with Jalapenos, Volcano Roll, and 2 other Sushi Rolls
This is not a cheap place to eat but the food was awesome. Average price per person is about $59 and this includes a bottle of sake for the table.
Here is a picture of Brian and Rachel at dinner.

Here is Jen and I (and yes I know I am one lucky guy!).

After dinner we stepped outside so Jen could take a few pictures. Here they are and notice the traffic!

4th of July dinner at Craftsteak
There is nothing I could say that would bring justice to Tom Colicchio’s restaurant Craftseak! I am a big fan of Tom (plus I like his name) and this is the first time I been to one of his places. The best way I could describe our dinner is that each dish burst with flavor and we talked about our dining experience the rest of the evening. For their 4th of July special, Craftsteak featured a flat rate 3 course meal for $60 per person. This included:
First Course
Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella
Shaved Fennel Salad
Vermont Quail with Vincotto
Persian Cucumber Salad

Second Course
Flatiron Steak
Grilled Angus Skirt Steak
Diver Sea Scallops
Roasted Corn
Baby Shiitake in wine sauce
Sour cream mash potatoes

Third Course
Liquid Chocolate Cake with Sicilian Pistachio Ice Cream
Rhubarb Crisp
Vanilla Bean Cheesecake
Crispy Rice Pudding with Spiced Pineapple

Talk about plating!

One of the best meals I have ever experienced. This is a must try if you ever make it out to Vegas.
Jen and I didn’t come back wealthier, but we did have a great time and it was great not only having someone else cook for the whole weekend, but also getting to sample such wonderful food!
Happy Cooking!
